The checklist
- Delete your advertising ID (Settings → Privacy → Ads → Delete advertising ID). Two minutes; breaks cross-app ad linkage instantly.
- Install a network firewall such as NULLOG. This single step blocks ad, tracker and telemetry traffic across every app — the largest privacy jump on this list.
- Enable encrypted DNS (Private DNS for DoT, or NULLOG's DoH tab). Stops your ISP and Wi-Fi operators from logging every domain you resolve.
- Audit app permissions (Settings → Privacy → Permission manager). Revoke location, contacts, microphone and storage from anything without an obvious need.
- Review accessibility & device-admin grants (Settings → Accessibility). This is the most abused permission class; nothing but accessibility tools should hold it.
- Trim your app inventory. Every app you delete stops updating, pinging and requesting. Uninstall what you have not opened in 90 days.
- Turn off notification listening and usage access for all non-essential apps.
- Check Google Account ad settings — disable personalization and clear the ad activity history.
- Lock it down physically: 6+ digit PIN or biometric, immediate lock, and disable notification content on the lock screen.
- Update everything — Play system updates and app updates. Privacy tools do not compensate for unpatched devices.
- Prefer apps you can verify. Prefer official releases and open-source builds; grab sideloaded APKs only from publisher sites over HTTPS — see our installation guide for the safe procedure.
- Run one network audit with your firewall's activity log after a week of normal use. The list of blocked background SDKs will recalibrate how much you trust "free" apps.
The monthly 5-minute routine
Privacy decays — apps update and quietly add SDKs, permissions drift, new installs arrive. Once a month: review the Sunday briefing from your firewall (requests blocked, new threats), re-check the permission manager sorted by "recently changed", and uninstall the month's accumulations. Five minutes keeps the stack tight.
What this stack achieves
With the full checklist applied: your ad profile is severed (no ID, no fingerprint delivery), your DNS is encrypted and filtered, your apps are permission-scoped, and your network traffic is audited continuously on-device. That is the realistic 2026 baseline — strong privacy without abandoning Android or your favorite apps.
Put it into practice with NULLOG
NULLOG runs every technique in this guide locally on your Android — ads, trackers and telemetry filtered in device memory. No root. No cloud. No logs.
